History

MorMor is a Scandinavian word that means Grandmother.  As it was for my wife and I, our grandmothers served to inspire us by their wonderful ability to entertain and amaze everyone they knew. Home cooked meals, fantastic holiday parties, stories, jokes and always a good time.  When my wife and I met at cooking school 12 years ago we dreamed of one day having our own restaurant that would feel like a dinner at grandmas house.  Years later and after working countless hours gaining experience with some of the most talented chefs & restaurateurs around, we found our little restaurant here in my home town of Poulsbo & MorMor Bistro & Bar was born!

Our goal here at MorMor is to provide a unique dining experience to all of our guests.  We emphasize on extraordinary products and freshness.  We specialize in local Northwest foods, using as many local and seasonally available products as possible.  In doing so our menus are printed often, so we may incorporate fresh and new products as they become available to us.  Always wild caught seafood, Oregon Country Natural Beef & produce from Northwest producers as well as local Kitsap County farmers.

We also feature a full bar with seasonally changing specialty cocktails, unique beers, and many aperitifs to go with our tasty food.  MorMor has an incredible wine list featuring wines from all over the world & highlights many great wines from around Oregon, Washington & the Northwest in general.  We feature many wines by the glass, half glass or even a tasting flight of several wines, to allow for great versatility in wine sampling.

The Team!

John & Laura Nesby
Chef and Owner

Chef John Nesby and his wife and co-owner Laura have run the acclaimed Mor Mor Bistro and Bar since it opened in Poulsbo in 2004. After meeting as students at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute, John and Laura spent the next decade training in some of the country's most respected kitchens, including The Four Seasons Scottsdale at Troon North, Joachim Splichal's Napa Valley restaurant Pinot Blanc, and Portland Oregon's James Beard Award Winning Paley's Place. While in the Napa Valley, John also attended the Culinary Institute of America Greystone.

John oversees the kitchen, drawing on his classic Italian and French influences to create daily changing menus. John is an active board member with the Poulsbo Farmers Market and enjoys working with local products and producers to offer his customers the best the region has to offer. The cuisine of the Nesby's stays simple and elegant and true to their roots as third generation business owners in the fantastic Poulsbo community.

Laura uses her past experiences in the kitchen combined with years of training in the front of the house to oversee the dining room of MorMor to inspire a warm and casual service that leaves guests feeling more like they are dining at home than a restaurant. Laura has spent time working closely with the wine industry in both the Napa and Willamette Valley's and brings that knowledge to the MorMor wine list that features a broad selection of domestic and global wines with an emphasis on the pacific Northwest.

The support staff here at MorMor is made up of General Manager Dorian Woodson who comes with years of industry and hospitality experience and an amazing knowledge of food and beverage & Chef de Cuisine Stephen Moreton. Stephen has been a part of MorMor since the early days and brings with him a vibrant and refined palatte and an ability to help steer the seasonal menus in an easily approachable direction that even the most modest of diners will find comforting and delicious.
